Today I felt like getting personal and thought I'd share a little about myself, Teale, the woman who started PBJ Pickup - why I did it, where the idea came from and where it's going.
Where did the idea come from?
I had the idea (an app where parents could maintain the list of who is authorized to pick up their kids) YEARS ago when my now third-grader was in a 2yo preschool program. I loved the school he attended and adored the teachers but I knew they weren't checking the form I filled out, inspecting licenses, etc when my son was getting picked up. I worked during the day so I wasn't the one picking him up, it was usually a grandparent. One day a teacher handed my mom the wrong kid, the mistake was fixed super quick but it made me think - there has to be a better way.
Why did I start this company?
After a couple years, I found I just couldn't shake the idea of this app. When my daughter was born and I knew she'd be getting ready for nursery school soon, I thought about it more. Then I left my full-time job to go out on my own, I knew it was time to take action on this long simmering idea. And so, PBJ Pickup was born.
What happens next?
PBJ Pickup was started with a single goal, do that one thing and do it well. We're adding on a few small features - tweaking some reports, allowing parents to message teachers and vice-versa, but nothing complicated. Our hope isn't to grow into a big data management system, our hope is to continue serving our customers and grow that group with the core product we have. Our focus isn't do more, it's do better.
